When patients are referred to the DOM, the enter the facility and are greeted with a smile and a warm welcome. After registration and their vitals signs are collected, they are taken on a tour of the building and shown the various aspects of the ministry as a whole, if they are able and interested.
This tour include the Florida Access center where clients can apply for government assistance if eligible, treatment rooms, exercise equipment generously donated to the clinic and the dental office soon to be used. Along the tour is the fellowship area where non-denominational services are held on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. weekly. If they have no church home, they are invited to return for worship. Finally, a special feature from the First Lady Oliver is Emily’s Closet, which allows those in need to choose free clothes, shoes, and more for men, women, and children of all ages.
At the medical visit, the providers takes the time to understand the patient’s medical history and current affliction in a non-judgmental manner, making them feel comfortable to share information about specific conditions. Here, patients are encourage to take part in their own process of healing. All protected health information is handled in a discrete and caring manner.
Referral are made to Physical Therapy, in house where applicable, Vista Labs and DOCs of Ocala for imaging. Dom would welcome others provider of additional services. Prescriptions are handled by interfaith and local discount pharmacies. There is a need for a physical network to provide referral services for general surgery, pain, management, pediatrics and women’s health.
As part of our outreach, classes are held weekly to inspire and empower persons with weight loss goals, Pre-Diabetes and Diabetes to equip themselves in a CDC approved lifestyles change program taught by diabetes lifestyle coaches. A program to train Home Health Aides in collaboration with Career Source is planned for the next 6 months.
